Maintenance Tips What Should I do When a Stone Dings My Windshield? When a stone dings the windshield it is recommended that you use one of the Novus clear band-aids and cover the spot on the outside of the windshield. By doing this you will reduce the amount of contamination that will get into the fracture As soon as you can, call your local Novus Dealer and set up an appointment for the repair. You can get Novus band-aids at any Novus store. When the repair is completed, your windshield will be restored structurally to its original shape. You can use your car immediately. My car is a couple years old and I have trouble seeing through the glass when it rains: In order to maintain the best visibility during winter driving conditions, we recommend that you replace your wiper blades at least once each year. Wiper blades become streaked due to sand and dirt being thrown up by passing cars when it is raining. Another product that will help you see better is to seal the windshield glass with a non-silicon base glass sealer, such as ”Aquapel” by PPG or ”Shat-R-Proof’ Water Repellent Coating, both available at any Novus Dealer. It is very important that you follow ”to the letter” the instructions on how to apply these products. If you fail to follow the correct application instructions, you will not be happy with the results. A better idea would be to let Novus properly clean your windshield and have us seal the glass for a small fee. By the way, this sealer is great on glass bath and shower stalls. What should I do if my windshield is completely broken? A broken windshield can cause light distortion and be a hazard for seeing through. In modern cars your windshield is a structural part of the passenger compartment. A windshield that is broken could cause the improper operation of your airbag if you are ever in an accident. The windshield also keeps the roof from caving in during a roll over. If it is broken, it may not hold up the roof and could increase the chance of driver and passenger injuries. If the windshield is broken, get it replaced. At Novus we use only manufacturer's installation procedures using original equipment glass or the equivalent.
